Canon has just released a firmware update for the Canon 550D (a.k.a. Rebel T2i) & 1D Mark IV. The update addresses some issues encountered in video mode where the set aperture moves unexpectedly in manual exposure mode while using certain lenses (e.g. Macro). The typos in the French and Spanish menus have also been fixed. You can download the updates from their official website:

Jackie Chan Canon 550D Limited Edition

Jackie Chan is my hero. I remember watching his films and doing roundhouse kicks in front of the TV and jumping off the sofa, pretending that I could do stunts like him. That was yesterday after all. I think he’s Great with a capital “G”, regardless of what the press in Hong Kong write about him, he is still a genius in my eyes.

The thing is, I’m a bit skeptical of tenuous celebrity product endorsements and Canon China have announced a Jackie Chan edition of the 550D.

The camera features a “龍” character just near the hot shoe, which means “dragon” and forms part of his stage name “成龍”. It comes with a 18-135mm f/3.5 – 5.6 lens, strap, leather full body case and an album book.

Now, there’s a sarcasm gene in me that wants me to totally rip into this. But I can’t. It’s JACKIE CHAN, man! He’s a spokesman for Canon too, and he is actually a Canon user. He’s got a whole in his head from falling down from a tree…just look at his face – can you really say any bad things about his limited edition 550D without feeling bad yourself?

If you really insist to make a negative comment about this limited edition then do so in the comments field, but I will “tut” for every negative comment made…

I have made my fondness for Canon’s icklest in their range of DSLRs before with the 500D in this video, so it was to my pleasure that I got to try out the new iteration of this lil’ camera from Canon. Find out what neat features it has over the 500D and how it fares when we take it out to the horse racing:

Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i Hands-on Review and Field Tes

It seems like the Canon products press workshop that we are attending today (9th February 2010, HK) will be mainly about the recently announced 550D (Rebel T2i)and not the rumoured 60D that a lot of people were hoping for. Nonetheless, the 550D is still a very neat product in itself with a new 18mp sensor – which equals the 7D in that respect – along with an improved full HD movie mode and an extended ISO range (high of ISO 6400 and can be extended to ISO 12,800).

  • 18 MP APS-C CMOS sensor
  • DIGIC 4
  • ISO 100-6400, H:12800
  • 3.7fps shooting
  • Full HD movies
  • 7.7cm (3.0”) 3:2 Clear View LCD with 1,040k dots
  • iFCL metering
  • Quick Control screen
  • Ext. Mic socket
  • Movie crop

Stay tuned for our video preview of the Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i.
